Disney's "Flights of Wonder" Exotic Bird Show! (in HD)Download this HD video (for free) to your iPad or Apple TV at: bit.ly Flights of Wonder is a scheduled 25-minute live show presented several times a day in the Asia area of Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park. The show features the fascinating natural behaviors and often humorous talents of at least 20 species of exotic birds, including Harris hawks, macaws and a Yellow-napped Amazon parrot named Groucho, who has an amazing singing voice. Step inside the shaded, canvas-canopied area and take a seat in front of the ornately-decorated Caravan Stage. This is where local tour guide "Guano" Joe and his partner Luke, a bird handler in training, pair up for the Flights of Wonder performance. In response to "Guano" Joe and Luke's cues, the birds hunt, sing, soar and sometimes swoop just above your head for some high-flying surprises. Though the cast changes on occasion, the Flights of Wonder show may include birds from these species: •Abyssinian Ground Hornbill •American Bald Eagle • Augur Buzzard •Barbary Falcon • Eurasian Eagle Owl • Gray-Crowned Crane •Harris Hawk •Ibis • Indian Runner Ducks • Macaw •Pigeon • Seriema •Toco Toucan •Yellow-napped Amazon Parrot

BBC Natural World - The return of the Eagle Owl (ft. Roy Dennis & Paul Voskamp)The Eagle Owl is a large and powerful bird, smaller than the Golden Eagle but larger than the Snowy Owl. It is sometimes titled the world's largest owl, but so is the Blakiston's Fish Owl, which is slightly bigger on average. The Eagle Owl has a wingspan of 138--200 cm (55--71 in) and measures 58--73 cm (23--29 in) long. Females weigh 1.75-4.2 kg (3.9-9.4 lbs) and males weigh 1.5-3.2 kg (3.3-7 lbs). In comparison, the Barn Owl weighs about 500 grams (1.1 lbs). It mainly feeds on small mammals, but can kill prey up to the size of foxes and young deer (up to 10 kg/22 lb), if taken by surprise. Larger prey (over 3 kg/7 lb) is consumed on the ground which leaves the bird vulnerable (for example to foxes). It is said to be routinely able to swallow a hedgehog whole. The call of the Eagle Owl is a deep resonant "ooh-hu" with emphasis on the first syllable for the male, and a more high-pitched uh-Hu for the female (in German and Hungarian, the name of this bird is "Uhu", the Turkish name is "Puhu", and the Dutch name is "Oehoe"). Each member of an Eagle Owl population can be identified by means of its vocalizations. The size, ear tufts and orange eyes make this a distinctive species. It has a strong direct flight. The ear tufts of males are more upright than those of females. The horned owls are a part of the larger grouping of owls known as the typical owls, Strigidae, which contains most species of owl. The other grouping is the barn owls, Tytonidae. The Eagle Owl is largely ...

Great Grey Owl - Strix nebulosaFinding a Great Grey Owl in the forest is pretty rare especially with all the logging going on. See or video of the type of logging being conducted around British Columbia and imagine all the different wildlife that is being impacted. The Great Grey Owl or Lapland Owl, Strix nebulosa, is a very large owl, distributed across the Northern Hemisphere. In some areas it is also called the Great Gray Ghost, Phantom of the north, Cinerous Owl, Spectral Owl, Lapland Owl, Spruce Owl, Bearded Owl and Sooty Owl. In terms of length, the Great Grey Owl rivals the Eurasian Eagle-owl and the Blakiston's Fish Owl as the world's largest owl. The Great Grey is outweighed by those two species as well as several others including both the Great Horned (Bubo virginianus) and Snowy (Nyctea scandiaca) owls. The harvest of timber from the Great Grey Owl's habitat is, perhaps, the greatest threat to this species. Intensified timber management typically reduces live and dead large-diameter trees used for nesting, leaning trees used by juveniles for roosting before they can fly, and dense canopy closures in stands used by juveniles for cover and protection. If perches are not left in clearcuts, Great Grey Owls cannot readily hunt in them. Although human-made structures (made specifically for use by this species) have been utilized by these owls, the species is far more common in areas protected from logging.
