I've noticed, living many places in the south, that e's and i's sorta blend together. Ink "pen" and safety "pin" are the same. Gem and gym and Jim are all the same etc.. Also, i's sound like a's a lot of times. Are you going to "drank" tonight?
My mom and I moved to New York , her boyfriend's family loves to hear our accent. I was born in Georgia and raised there until I was 10,then we moved to Tennessee until I was 16 ,so I would say so many words differently from them and then they would ask me to say things again just to hear my accent. XD
I lived in Eastern Virginia for a while (Norfolk, Virgina Beach area). The accent there is totally different close to the coast.
I'm from Virginia and I hav a very slight southern accent because I've lived around people who spoke with a southern accent, like my dad.
U wouldn't be able to tell though, only on certain words. You can hear it more when I yell, though XD
I don't think you could actually number them really, they slowly change as you move throughout the South. Many people put them in categories but the Southern accent is very diverse and often diluted by people moving in from other area's of the country. You will get a truer Southern accent in rural area's that haven't had as much outside influence.
How many southern accent there are?
Thanks
Thanks !
Great video. Your accent is charming!
your accent is beutiful :L its like a cowboy
That was very nice to hear, thanks!
It's nice to hear that you're proud of where you come from, and that you're not making your video as some kind of sarcastic joke. I liked that you tied in parts of your life story, culture, and perspective too. Thank you.
Born and lived in eastern KY all my life, I'm in Indiana now.. I think I've heard every redneck, hick and hillbilly joke out there because of the way I talk. But it makes me unique I suppose, and as my step dad would say ''them fellers are crazier than a sprayed roach'' :)
No only because thats all I hear so it just sounds normal to me.
i wanna make love to your accent yey subbed
....you dont hear an accent?
I'm from eastern kentucky, so I have the same accent you do. Im afraid our accent is dying out. it seems to get thinned out with every generation, the older the person is around here the thicker their accent. For example my grandparents say things like "wender" for window. or "warsh" for wash, you dont find these things in other southern accents I honestly hate to see it just go away with the older generations like that.
Look up Senator Howell Heflin on Youtube for an example of non-rhotic Southern.
The "non-rhotic" Southern accent should not be forgotten. It was very widespread and common 2-3 generations ago. Is said to be one of America's oldest dialects, but is virtually extinct now.
Truth.
Same with me, I was born and raised in the South (still live in my hometown) and I dont think I have an accent. When I listen to people (like you) I dont hear an accent, it just sounds normal. Everybody says I have an accent but I dont see it.
Paris is just north, same exit, and yes, they still deliver the food on skates :D
Seems like I remember going to a sonic in Paris, TN when I was younger and it was the first time I saw the girls on the roller skates bringing food out. I'm just guessing Sonic started out in the South, but I'm not sure. Anyway it was cool enough at the time that I remember it well.
yeah i live outside of jackson now, in a small town called parsons, no mcdonalds either, but we have a sonic xD.
I've spent a lot of time in Cumberland and Clinton Counties. Very laid back lifestyle, Burkesville has not changed much since I was a kid. Not even a McDonalds. Yes the accent changes a lot as you go from Eastern KY or TN toward Jackson and Memphis.
