AL JOLSON TRANSANDS TIME.
Absolutely the BEST entertainer of all time.
Loved all this good music.
This is a great historical performance, preserved on film for all generations to appreciate!!
He could dance and belt out a song. He had legs and pipes and he was funny.
What a guy he would've been to talk to!
Broardway was shut down when he died, The man is The Greatest.
amazing voice!
Is it true what they say about Jolson, LOL!
It amazes me that you probably think you're clever.
@TheStubbleking I suppose that went with his magnetic personality.
like a cartoon come to life - genius, perfect.
Jolson was not gay! Today everybody is branded that. He was married (to women) 3 times.
WHAT A PERFORMER! REMEMBER HE WAS LIVE..........NO STUDIO OR BACKING SINGERS...
@TheStubbleking What does "iron filings" voice mean?
@TheStubbleking I haven't heard that phrase before ... what does it mean? "iron filings" voice
Jolson Rocks!!
@bj001r9327 Does bj001r9327 keep eating possum til he can't eat no mo'?
@bj001r9327 LoL, I didn't know Jolson was gay. Well I guess it's better he was a top man as opposed to a bottom.
Still the best. No one even comes close to Jolson's magnificent talents.
"And do the folks keep eating possum until they can't eat no mo'?"
Hi flemit11. I've got the Jolie version from 1950 and of course Elvis's version; are there any versions from earlier as this song was written way back in the 20s,
Thanks
This is a video glimpse of the kind of personal communication experienced by generations of pre-film vaudville audiences. Performers who didn't learn their craft looking into a camera lens. "Look em in the eye, plant your feet, and tell the truth." (James Cagney)
Are you lonesome tonight was wrote and first recorded in the 1920s, Tom Parker asked Elvis to record the song because it was his wifes favourite (excuse my spelling) his wife would of had a few versions to chose from Elvis would probably be aware of Al Jolsons version and probably a few more as well
Asa Joelson was definitely on top of his game until the end. A classic!
Jolson was the Greatest Entertainer over everyone else before or since his death. Even better than Elvis and Elvis himself testifies that Jolson was the Greatest. He recorded Are you Lonesome Tonight in 1960 as a tribute to Jolie who first recorded it ten years before in 1950.
