2. believing you're worthy and showing it are two different things. the people you meet in your future will judge your worth on one thing, what you do, not what you believe. thus what you believe should simply influence what you do outside of your mind. I'm saying the boy that does learn how to earn worth, not because his mother didn't love him but because she tempered her love and praise, will go far. the only way to glean from your belief of self-worth is to get good at possessing it... work.

4. the reality is totally the opposite IMO. My Mum made me jump through hoops to earn her affection. I never felt 'good enough'. I learned that she was narcissistic. The boy who gets given affection no matter what will grow up to feel naturally worthy. He is worth it, regardles of his actions. Me on the other hand, I have to be better, look better, work smarter, I am never good enough as I am and I can try to earn love but I don't let myself receive it because I just don't feel worthy of it.
5. maybe she's wrong to you...in your opinion, but other people have differing perceptions and since this talk provided me with so much hope, and something so solid to relate to, i believe she is right.

8. That could be only a tiny part of the self. It is not who you are. Many active people have herpes, etc. so being active is no great thing.

10. she's wrong. you can't just believe you are worthy... that's a loser's game. the variable between people who feel worthy vs those who don't is work. those that feel worthy worked at having an attitude that exudes worth. my example is a mother and well behaved boy. because boy is well behaved, she doesn't have to oppose him. she always hugs him. he never has to work for his mom's affection. my theory says this boy will feel unworthy because he never learned how to earn it early on.

I have to say, I am finishing up my PhD in CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY and it has taken me SO long - I raised three children, went through a tragic accident where my husband lost his leg above the knee, and am beginning to conduct my research for my dissertation. I have another 1000 hours at a psychiatric hospital for my internship. I LOVED your work and EVERYTHING you said. I would love to "talk" with you if at all possible. 15. Brene has beautifully communicated some points worth exploration. Her point that children come 'hard-wired' for difficulty correlates well w/ the idea that our world 'broke' when Adam/Eve disobeyed (trespassed against) God. However, He had devised a plan for us to 're-connect' with Him. He sent His Son to face the same vulnerabilities as we, but who remained sinless. He paid the price we owed by dying for us. He came to give Life and take away the shame of ANY who place their faith in Him!
16. Wonderful speach by Brene Brown. I so needed to hear this. Thank you, thank you for sharing your own vulnerability. As another commenter said, the need to be certain, invulnerable does indeed shape our lives and not in a good way.

22. I watched this on netflix last night and i think I'm starting to have my own breakdown. Never realized how my lack of outward vulnerability has completely shaped my life today. I'm definitely one of those that would fall into the category of struggling with connection and acceptance.
