Operation Kids is now an official collaborator with The Allstate
Foundation and the Injury Free Coalition for Kids.
"The Allstate Foundation has made a generous commitment to donate to the
'Rebuilding in New Orleans' campaign, a campaign that is dedicated to
making a measurable difference," said Rick Larsen, president of Operation Kids. "The philosophies of The Allstate Foundation, Operation Kids and Brees Dream Foundation reflect similar ideals, so the relationship seemed like a perfect fit."
Operation Kids and the Brees Dream Foundation, founded by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his wife Brittany, are focused on "Rebuilding Dreams in New Orleans." They are working with selected New Orleans organizations over the next year to fund and rebuild classroom facilities, athletic facilities, parks and playgrounds, after-school programs, mentoring programs for the intellectually disabled, neighborhood revitalization projects and child care facilities.
"A majority of this donation will go toward establishing a one-of-a-kind
facility for Lusher Charter School in uptown New Orleans," Larsen said. "This multi-use, fully functioning and lighted football/baseball/soccer/softball field will be one of the finest facilities in the city."
This facility will not only serve Lusher's own struggling athletic programs, but it will serve as a practice field for Tulane University, a physical education and recess field for the New Orleans Charter Science & Math High School and a competitive venue for other neighboring schools and community
sports programs. Construction will commence in the spring of 2008.
"Many of these children have gone without for so long," Larsen said.
"This versatile facility will not only have a have a positive impact on the
youth of New Orleans, but the community as a whole."
